79 Year-old Woman Injured in House Fire in Uncorporated Clearwater

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives assigned to the Arson/Auto Theft Unit and the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating a fire that injured a 79-year-old woman in unincorporated Clearwater.

At about 7:03 a.m. on July 27, 2017, deputies and Dunedin Fire Rescue personnel were called to a residence at 2173 Pine Ridge Drive in unincorporated Clearwater, regarding a report of smoke coming from the residence.

Dunedin Fire Rescue personnel made entry to the home and found a smoldering fire inside the residence that was contained to the kitchen. The fire was extinguished.

Detectives say the resident, 79-year-old Dimitra Dimopoulos, was found unresponsive inside the home suffering from what appeared to be smoke inhalation.

Dimopoulos was transported to Tampa General Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation; however, detectives say the fire does not appear suspicious.
