Both occupants of the vehicle were unrestrained during this single vehicle crash when the car went airborne and flipped at least once.  Further investigation into the crash has revealed that the deceased, Shannon Ollek W/M 32 years of age, was the driving the car during the crash.  The passenger, Kelly Cronin, W/F 55 years old, suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.  Alcohol is still considered to be a factor, but as Ollek was the driver no charges are expected in this case.

Crews from Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene of an overturned vehicle early Sunday morning about 12:45am.  Initial report was that two occupants were still in the overturned vehicle.  First arriving crews located the vehicle off the roadway in front of 12950 Starkey Road.  One occupant of the vehicle self-extricated from the upon arrival of the Fire Department.

Crews from Largo’s Station 38 worked to reach the 31 year-old male trapped in the vehicle.  An extrication operation was initiated and the doors of the vehicle were removed allowing crews to reach him.  Upon removal from the vehicle it was determined that he experienced fatal injuries.

The Largo Police Department has identified the 31 year-old passenger as Shannon Ollek.  The name of the driver is being withheld at this time.

Initial information from Largo Police Department indicates that the 2008 Chevy was southbound on Starkey Road when it veered out of control sliding sideways into a culvert. The vehicle went airborne and rolled at least once. The 31 year old passenger, Shannon Ollek, was
pronounced deceased onscene. Both occupants were not wearing their seatbelts.
Alcohol is a factor in this crash and charges are pending the outcome of the
investigation.
