A emergency call for service came into the Pinellas Regional 911 Center on Sunday, January 10, 2016.

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Largo Fire Rescue and Sunstar Paramedics were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2 PM.  Units responded to the home located at 2072 Whitney Drive in Unincorporated Clearwater.

Shortly prior to the arrival of responding Deputies, they received an update that one subject was shot.  Once the scene and firearm was secured, paramedics and EMTs treated the patient.

According to investigators from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowners had just arrived home when Linda Nundy noticed a man walking into a garage/barn in their enclosed backyard.  Her husband Wayne Nundy armed himself with a 40 caliber handgun and went to investigate while she called 911.

Mr Nundy encountered 28 year-old Jacob Desimone of Clearwater on the second floor of the structure.  According to detectives, Desimone came down the staircase and lunged at Nundy as Nundy fired a warning round into the floor.

Nundy advised detectives that he ordered Desimone to leave his property repeatedly as many as 50 times. It is reported that Desimone continued aggressive movements toward him and the process continued until the two men got back outside.

At one point it is reported that Desimone grabbed a metal patio chair and tried to strike Nundy.  He responded by firing a shot that sent the man to Bayfront for the treatment of a life-threatening injury.

Detectives say the suspect had been reported missing and Endangered earlier Sunday morning.

No arrests or charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation continues.

Nundy is a retired Pinellas County school teacher and served his Country as a US Marine.  He was not injured during he incident.

Many neighbors were shocked that this happened and watched as the family spoke with detectives after the shooting. One person that knows Nundy described him as “a solid honest guy.”
