Largo Police Searching for Suspect in Numerous Armed Robberies

Beginning in December 2016, the Largo Police Department started experiencing take over style armed robberies occurring throughout the city on an intermittent basis.

Neighboring police agencies also experienced similar robberies. In each case, the subjects went to great lengths to conceal their identities by using masks and/or hoodies. In some cases, gloves were worn.

On December 1, 2017, Largo Police responded to an armed robbery at the Speedway, 5798 Roosevelt Blvd. During this robbery, two armed subjects entered the store displaying their firearms and threatening the three occupants located inside the business.

On Monday, December 4, 2017, while following up on this investigation, Largo Police were able to develop probable cause for the arrest of 24 year-old Roderick Green.

Police say Green has been a person of interest from the outset of the investigation and had previously been interviewed by law enforcement. During the most recent robbery investigation, probable cause for Green’s arrest was established for the Speedway robbery occurring on December 1, 2017.

Green was arrested on the following charges:

  • Armed Robbery of the Citgo gas station located at 1701 West Bay Dr on October, 4, 2017
  • Armed Robbery and Felon in Possession of Ammunition at the Speedway gas station located at 5798 Roosevelt Blvd on December 1, 2017

Through their investigation, detectives were also able to establish probable cause for 23 year-old Willie A Cunningham for his involvement in at least two Largo robberies.

Cunningham has not been located and the Largo Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating him. Cunningham is wanted in connection with the following robberies:

  • Armed Robbery of the Citgo gas station located at 1701 West Bay Dr on October 4, 2017
  • Armed Robbery at the Chevron gas station located at 790 East Bay Dr on October 4, 2017

Additional charges against these two individuals are pending and information recovered by Largo detectives has been shared with their counterparts at other local agencies. Anyone having additional information regarding this robbery series is asked to call Detective Jill Freire or Detective Brendan Arlington at (727)587-6730.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating similar armed robbery cases. Information on that case can be found HERE
