Man Arrested After Shooting a Woman in the Stomach During a Fight in Unincorporated St. Petersburg

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20 year-old Tyson Garcia of Kenneth City for shooting a woman in the stomach during a fight in Unincorporated St. Petersburg.

At about 10:55 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017, deputies were called to a residence located at 5000 28th Street North, lot #23, in unincorporated St. Petersburg for a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they located the victim 20-year-old Erica Platt of St. Petersburg suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Platt to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for non-life-threatening injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, witnesses told deputies the incident started when 21-year-old Brandon Tartaglia started a physical altercation with a 17-year-old male and 20-year-old Tyson Garcia at lot #21, earlier in the evening. After the initial altercation, Tartaglia returned to lot #23.

Deputies say the 17 year-old, Tyson Garcia, and an unidentified male subject walked over to lot #23 where a second physical altercation took place outside the residence. Witnesses told deputies Tyson Garcia took out a handgun and shot Platt who was standing in the doorway of the residence watching the fight. Tyson Garcia then fled the scene with the handgun.

Through various investigative techniques, deputies were able to locate Tyson Garcia and take him into custody without incident. The handgun was not recovered.

Tyson Garcia was arrested at approximately 3:15 a.m. and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Tartaglia, listed as a transient, was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He was charged with one count of battery for striking the 17 year-old during the altercation.

The 17 year-old sustained a minor injury and refused medical treatment.

Deputies say it’s still unclear what started the altercation.
