Pinellas Deputies Arrest Uber Driver for Strong Arm Robbery in Palm Harbor
Deputies arrested 28 year-old Alexander J. Troy of Clearwater for forcefully stealing a gold necklace from a 17-year-old boy in Palm Harbor.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday at about 2:25 a.m. on June, 4, 2017, deputies were called to a residence in the 2600 block of Wildwood Lane in Palm Harbor, for a report of a robbery.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim, a 17-year-old of Palm Harbor resident and his friend. The victim told deputies that they were dropped off at the location by an Uber driver who was identified on the Uber app as “Alexander”
According to the victim and witness, the Uber driver was dropping them off at their destination when the driver became agitated claiming that their fare was canceled. The driver claimed they owed him money.
Deputies say that the two exited the Uber driver’s vehicle and there was an argument. At some point during the argument, the Uber driver exited his vehicle and grabbed the victim’s gold necklace, forcefully pulling the necklace off the victim. The Uber driver got back in his vehicle and drove away with the victim’s necklace.
The victim informed deputies the necklace was valued at several thousand dollars.
Through the course of the investigation, deputies were able to identify the Uber driver as Alexander Troy. Deputies made contact with Troy at his residence located at 5001 Foxbridge Circle North, in Clearwater.
Deputies located Troy’s vehicle and found the victim’s necklace in the front seat center console, in plain view. Deputies say the damage to the necklace was consistent with the victim’s allegations. Deputies also verified the victim’s Uber fare was paid for.
Deputies arrested Troy at approximately 4:30 a.m. and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
Troy was charged with one count of Strong Arm Robbery.
The investigation continues.
