Police Say Woman Shot Intruder Coming into Her St. Petersburg Home

The St. Petersburg Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred at 937 24th Avenue South at 6:13 a.m.

According to SPPD, the preliminary information is that a woman living at that address observed a man she did not know coming into her home through a side window.

She warned the man that she was armed and shot the intruder when he did not retreat. The middle-aged man was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with a gunshot wound.

SPPD has identified the man that was shot by the homeowner early this morning at 937 24th Avenue South.

He is 48 year-old Timothy Scott Tugman. Tugman is still hospitalized and will be charged with Occupied Residential Burglary.

He is expected to survive according to police.
