Tarpon Springs Woman Critically Injured in Palm Harbor Crash on Belcher Road
25 year-old Julie Ann Rago of Tarpon Springs was critically injured in a crash that occurred at approximately 4:51 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
The crash occurred on Belcher Road at Fox Chase Boulevard.
According to Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Rago was driving southbound on Belcher Road in a 1998 Lexus sedan. For an unknown reason, she lost control of her vehicle which crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes of Belcher Road.
Rago collided nearly head-on with 57 year-old Michael Lavoie of Salem, NH, driving a 2016 Toyota pickup truck. Her Lexus rotated then struck a 2017 Volkswagon sedan driven by a 34 year-old Janice Gancena of Palm Harbor.
After the initial impact, the Toyota pickup truck was rear ended by a 2012 Nissan Sedan driven by 52 year-old Kathleen Gozo of Tarpon Springs.
Rago’s Lexus departed the roadway and ended up on the east shoulder of the road. She was extricated from the vehicle with critical injures and flown to a local trauma center.
None of the other drivers were seriously injured and were treated at the scene.
The investigation continues.
