Units from Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District (PSFRD) were dispatched to a home just before 4pm today.  Initial reports indicated that 14-year-old Andrew Mills of Seminole was accidentally shot in the abdomen by another teen.  That teen has been identified as 16-year-old Matthew Emerick . The location of the shooting at 9501 134th Way was just a few block from PSFRD Station 28.

Arriving units declared a trauma alert and requested the assistance of Bayflite to transport the teen.  Additional units were dispatched from PSFRD and Seminole Fire Rescue to assist at the scene and at the landing zone. Bayflite landed at a nearby shopping center and Sunstar Paramedics transported the teen to the landing zone.

According to detectives, the victim, Andrew Mills and his friend Matthew Emerick came to Matthew’s home after baseball practice on Sunday afternoon. While they were in the house, Matthew came into a room where Andrew was to show him a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle. While Matthew was showing Andrew the rifle he accidentally shot Andrew in the abdomen. Andrew was transported to a local hospital via Bayflite with non-life threatening injuries.

No adults were home at the time of the incident. No charges will be filed against the Matthew Emerick.
