Dee Ann Wynkoop (Spidle), age 42 of Jacksonville, FL, was driving a Ford truck westbound on Ulmerton prior to the crash.  A witness stated that Wynkoop was driving erratically for quite some time and phone calls were placed to Largo Police Department prior to the crash.

Reportedly just prior to the intersection, Wynkoop went across multiple lanes and struck another vehicle that was stopped at the red light.  Multiple other vehicles were involved due to the subsequent chain reaction.

Firefighters worked to free both Wynkoop and her adult male passenger out of the heavily damaged Ford.  A witness reported that both the driver and the passenger exhibited signs of impairment immediately following the crash.  Both occupants were transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

According to arrest documentation, two empty 16oz cans of Ice House Edge (8% alcohol by volume) were found in the cup holder and in the floor board of the vehicle.  Wynkoop reportedly was “uncooperative with medical staff by kicking, yelling, and spitting.”

The Officer noted that she could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage that became stronger as Wynkoop spoke.  It is further noted that, “her eyes were blood shot, watery, and glossy.” The report further indicated that Wynkoop admitted to drinking three 16oz cans of beer prior to driving.

She refused to provide a blood sample to law enforcement but the hospital recorded a blood alcohol concentration of .256.  This is over three times the legal limit of .08 that is considered impaired in Florida.

Wynkoop was charged with Driving Under the Influence with bail set at $500.

At least one other person was transported to a the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
