12-year-old arrested for threats against Azalea Middle School on social media

On January 12, 2024, deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Pinellas County Schools student for Written Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting.

According to deputies, a 12-year-old female student sent Instagram messages to two other students regarding conducting a school shooting that would take place at Azalea Middle School.

Deputies made contact with the girl and her mother, where she admitted to sending the messages but told deputies she was not serious about the threats. After the investigation, the girl was taken into custody and charged with Written Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting. She was transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
