Officers from the St. Petersburg Police arrested 18-year-old Alicia Watson of Tampa following a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
The crash occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the intersection of Park Street N and Jungle Avenue.
According to arrest documentation, Watson was operating her vehicle northbound on Park Street, approaching the intersection for Jungle Avenue North. She lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway. The vehicle struck a curb, a tree, a street sign, a water hydrant, and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was attempting to walk her dogs and cross Jungle Avenue on the east side of Park Street. She was transported to a local trauma center, but her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Witnesses reported that Watson was swerving all over the road and into the opposite travel lanes just before the crash. The officer documented that Watson had bloodshot eyes and droopy eyelids, appeared lethargic while speaking, had difficulty maintaining focus during the conversation, and had mood swings along with the smell of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. According to the arresting officer, she refused to participate in the Field Sobriety Testing.
The officer located a 3/4 empty bottle of 1.75 liter Crown Royal Regal Apple on the vehicle’s rear floorboard. In addition, with the bottle of Crown, the officer located 6.1 grams of cannabis in a zip-lock bag.
Watson was arrested and faces the following charges
- DUI involving property damage
- Possession of Alcoholic Beverage by person under 21
- Possession of marijuana
At 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, she remained in the Pinellas County Jail with her bond amended to $5420.00. Upon release, she will outfitted with a Continuous Alcohol Monitor.
