Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash involving a 22-year-old motorcyclist from New Port Richey. The incident occurred around 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, leading to the closure of all southbound lanes on East Lake Road for an extended period.
Preliminary findings indicate that the operator of a Yamaha R6 motorcycle was traveling southbound at a high speed on East Lake Road. While attempting to overtake a Dodge Ram Truck located south of Keystone Road, the motorcyclist collided with the rear of the truck, resulting in his ejection from the Yamaha.
The injured motorcyclist was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The 67-year-old male driver of the Dodge Ram from Port Richey did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Normal traffic flow on the affected roadway resumed shortly after 9 a.m.
