40th Avenue NE Bridge will be open for two-way traffic starting on Wednesday.
After days of utility re-location and rerouting of traffic lanes, the 40th Avenue NE Bridge will be open for two-way traffic starting on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
One lane of east bound and one lane of west bound traffic will be squeezed to the outer edges of the bridge, so that engineers can more closely inspect the interior and center pieces of the span.
“This modification of traffic allows us the room to work safely,” said City of St. Petersburg Engineering Director Brejesh Prayman. “It also allows traffic to work both east- and west-bound at the same time restoring access for residents.”
Traffic will be able to use the bridge after the morning-rush hour subsides Wednesday, allowing for drivers to get used to the new pattern for a few hours before the afternoon traffic picks up.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and adhere to the reduced speed limit of 15 mph. Pedestrians are advised to utilize alternate routes.
Trucks using the bridge are required to strictly adhere to the posted weight limits and reduced speeds.
