The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a custodian at King High School for bringing a firearm on to campus.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:15 a.m., the school administration notified HCSO’s STAR Team of a firearm that was located secured in a maintenance closet.
Detectives learned through investigative means that the firearm belonged to Michael Difabio, 58, who was employed as a custodian at the school. Difabio has been employed by King High School since January, 2023.
“There is no place for weapons on school grounds. Schools should be sanctuaries where students and staff should feel safe and secure,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The first day of school is just around the corner, and our message is loud and clear, we will not tolerate weapons on campus for any reason.”
Difabio is facing one charge of Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds. At the time of his arrest, Difabio resigned from the school.
This is an active investigation.
