Clearwater Police Investigate Officer-Involved Crash

Three people, including a police sergeant, were injured Monday afternoon when two cars collided at an intersection on Drew Street.
The crash occurred a little after 4 p.m. at Drew Street and Missouri Avenue.
Clearwater Police Sgt. Stephen Wannos, driving an unmarked police vehicle, and two people in the other car, a Honda Accord, were taken to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Traffic on Drew Street was shut down for more than three hours as investigators conducted their investigation.
The sergeant, who has been with Clearwater Police since 1998, and one of the people in the other car were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. The second person from the other car was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
The driver of the the Honda Accord was 16 year-old Derek Robert Wrazen of Palm Harbor and the passenger was 18 year-old Dakota Lynn Besack of Trinity.
All three patients are still being treated at the two local hospitals.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.Â
