Clearwater Man Causes Head-On Collision Driving Wrong-Way In Hillsborough County This Morning

Chad Clay McDonie, age 31 of Clearwater, is just the latest of wrong-way drivers here in the Tampa Bay area. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), on April 24, 2015 at approximately 12:21 AM, deputies responded to a report of a wrong way driver heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of Linebaugh Avenue West near Sheldon Road. Upon arriving at the intersection, deputies observed a traffic crash had already occurred.
McDonie was traveling eastbound in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata in the westbound lanes of Linebaugh Avenue near Sheldon Road when he struck an Infinity SUV head-on that was being driven by Brenda Wallace. Wallace was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to HCSO.
Deputies observed signs of impairment on McDonie. McDonie was arrested for Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage and transported to the Orient Road Jail and is being held on $500 bail.
