Pedestrian Critically Injured Crossing McMullen Booth Road
Posted: November 22, 2015
Calls were received by 911 on Saturday, November 21, 2015 shortly before 8 PM about a crash involving a pedestrian. The crash occurred at the intersection of McMullen Booth Road and Enterprise Road in Safety Harbor.
Crews from Safety Harbor Fire Department, Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department, Sunstar Paramedics, and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrived on-scene. First Responders found 47 year-old Anna Davis of Safety Harbor in the roadway with very serious injuries. A request for an air transport was requested but the closest available unit was over 30 minutes away. Paramedics on-scene decided to rush her to the trauma center at St. Joseph’s Hospital by ground via Sunstar.
Due to the extent of the injuries to Ms. Davis, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office dispatched their Major Accident Investigation Team to respond to the scene. The team spent many hours investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
In a press release by Corporal Spencer Gross of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Davis was walking eastbound crossing McMullen Booth Road at the intersection of Enterprise Road in the crosswalk, against the “Don’t Walk” pedestrian signal.
Investigators say Noah Downie of Clearwater was driving a 2016 Nissan Rogue northbound on McMullen Booth Road approaching Enterprise Road with a green traffic light. Downie initially did not see Davis crossing the roadway in the dark and struck Davis with his vehicle. Investigators said that Downie appeared to be driving the speed limit and he showed no signs of impairment.
At the time of the crash, it appears that Downie was driving to Mease Countyside Hospital to visit with his wife and newborn daughter.
Witnesses on-scene also reported that Davis had just left Walgreens and may have been heading back to her apartment a couple miles away. Information was obtained by IONTB from witnesses that suggest that Davis appeared impaired and many have been a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues
