Ohio Man in Custody After High-Speed Pursuit in St. Pete Beach

40 year-old Richard McGarvey III of Thornnville, Ohio as arrested by Pinellas Deputies after a pursuit in St. Petersburg Beach.
The incident began Wednesday evening at approximately 10:47 PM. Deputies were dispatched to the Circle K located at 2006 Pass A Grille Way in reference to the assault.
McGarvey reportedly pressed the accelerator in an attempt to flee a traffic stop linked to the assault call. Deputies reported that “he turned his vehicle into the victim.” McGarvey was driving a truck with a large camper attached.
Despite numerous attempts to get McGarvey to stop, he reached speeds of at least 80 mph on numerous occasions. Deputies were finally able to stop him at 75th Ave by surrounding his vehicle. One surrounded ,he was tazed and taken into custody according to arrest documentation.
In the vehicle, a small glass pipe used to smoke drugs was located on the drivers side seat along with approximately 10 grams of marijuana in a small glass jar.
McGarvey reportedly admitted to having two beers. He damaged three vehicles during the incident including two Pinellas County Sheriff Office patrol vehicles.
All the vehicles were described as having significant damage with estimates of about $5000 each.
