Clearwater Police investigated an apparent drowning earlier today.
Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Police were dispatched to 1725 St. Croix Drive at 9:49 this morning.

An elderly woman was found floating and unresponsive in the backyard pool at that address.
The first fire medics on scene tried to resuscitate her, but their efforts were futile. The woman had been sitting in a chair near the pool and her caretaker found her in the water a short time later.

It will be up to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
The victim has been identified as 89 year- old Mary Debord who lived at that address on St. Croix Drive.
