Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Involving Overturned Car On US-19 at Pine Ridge Way S in Palm Harbor
Shortly after 5 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2017, first responders were dispatched to a crash in the 34200 block of Hwy US-19 in Palm Harbor.
Upon arrival they encountered an overturned vehicle on top of a motorcycle. The motorcyclist died at the scene and Bayflite responded to transport the injured occupant of the vehicle. Her injuries are listed as serious but do not appear life-threatening.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrived to conduct the investigation. Based on preliminary information, Troopers say that 22 year-old Arianna Abbate-Perks of Holiday, Florida was traveling northbound on US-19 in a 2006 Honda Civic. She was north of Nebraska Avenue and attempted to make a left turn into Park Avenue Plaza.
At same time, 21 year-old Devon Porrata of Spring Hill, Florida was traveling southbound on US-19 on a 2013 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle. He was reportedly in the outside lane.
Trooper say the Civic traveled into the path of Porrata’s motorcycle. The two vehicles collided which resulted in both vehicles overturning.
Porrata reportedly was wearing a helmet but sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash. Abbate-Perks was flown to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries.
Troopers say charges are pending and testing is ongoing to determine if Abbate-Perks was impaired in any way.
