Bicyclist Fatally Injured in St. Petersburg Crash Monday Evening

Investigators from the St. Petersburg Police Department continue to investigate a crash that left a man critically wounded on Monday, September 18, 2017 at approximately 9:21 pm.

The crash occurred in the 1600 block of 62nd Avenue North.  A 26 year-old St. Petersburg woman was driving a 2004 Cadillac four door westbound on 62nd Avenue North in the median lane.  She was proceeding through a solid green traffic light when a bicyclist, 51 year-old Mark William Napier began to cross 62nd Avenue North from the north to the south, in the west crosswalk at the intersection of 16th Street North.

Napier rode into the path of the oncoming Cadillac and was struck.  The right front corner of the Cadillac struck the left side of the bicycle.  This sent Napier into the windshield and over the roof of the vehicle then onto the roadway. Police say Napier was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg in critical condition.  Napier died on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 5:43 pm.

The driver of the Cadillac was not injured.

Alcohol was not a factor in this crash according to investigators.
