Tampa Police Investigate Another Murder in Seminole Heights

The Tampa Police Department is currently on-scene in Seminole Heights after a man was shot and killed in the area of N. Nebraska Avenue and E. McBerry Street in Tampa.

At 4:51 AM on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, officers responded to N. Nebraska Ave and E. McBerry St for the report of shots heard in the area. Arriving on-scene within seconds, officers found an adult male, later identified as 60 year-old Ronald Felton, deceased in the street.

Witnesses tell police that Mr. Felton was crossing the street to meet someone when the suspect came up behind him and shot him.

A perimeter was immediately set up in an effort to contain the suspect. The perimeter has been set from Osborne to Hillsborough and Nebraska to N. 15th St.

Officers continue to gather information and systematically search the neighborhood as the investigation is on-going.

Anyone within the perimeter should remain indoors until advised, to allow the investigation to proceed.

Nebraska Avenue remains closed to traffic in both directions between Hillsborough Avenue and Osborne Avenue – motorists are urged to find alternate routes.

Police are asking residents to review any surveillance cameras they may have and share it with detectives.

Anyone who owns a gun should verify its location; if it is missing, it should be reported immediately.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6′-6’2″, thin build, light complexion, armed with a large black pistol last seen wearing all black clothing.

Hillsborough County Public Schools Security is in constant contact with Tampa Police as the investigation continues in Seminole Heights.

Seminole Heights ES
Lomax ES
Lockhart ES
Young MS
Ferrell MS
Memorial MS
Hillsborough HS

Lock-in means access to the campus is tightly controlled. Students can be dropped off, but outdoor activities will not take place.
