No Injuries After Driver Crashes Car into Pinellas Park Business

Pinellas Park Police are working a traffic crash involving a single vehicle that drove into the front of a building located at 8560 49th Street at approximately 4:30 p.m.

After the 2007 Hyundai Accent struck the building (check cashing business), the driver Scott Richard Cogan, 60 years of age, of Pinellas Park, FL backed the vehicle out of the building and attempted to drive off before being stopped by a witness.

Police say that during the investigation, it was determined that Cogan attempted to park his vehicle in front of the business located 8560 49th Street, as he was headed to a neighboring business in the same plaza.

While attempting to park, the driver hit the gas and drove his 2007 Hyundai Accent up over the curb and into the front of the building (check cashing store).

According to witnesses Mr. Cogan then backed his vehicle out of the building and attempted to drive off.  Mr. Cogan was having difficulties operating his  vehicle and a nearby witness was able to stop the vehicle as police arrived on scene.

Mr. Cogan was transported to the hospital out of precaution but sustained no noted injuries.

A DUI investigation was conducted based on signs of impairment observed with Mr. Cogan.  The investigation is ongoing as investigators will await the toxicology results in the coming days.  Charges are pending and will be based on the toxicology results.

There building suffered heavy damage to the front of the business.
