Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are currently on-scene of a extrication crash at the intersection of 49th Street N and 46th Avenue.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
According to troopers, 69 year-old John Burdette of St. Petersburg was traveling southbound on 49th Street North approaching 46th Avenue North in a 2003 Ford sedan.
Cathy Shea, age 56 of St. Petersburg, was stopped eastbound on 46th Avenue North at the intersection of 49th Street North in a 2017 Ford pickup truck. Troopers say that Shea received a green traffic signal and entered the intersection.
Burdette who was not wearing a seatbelt failed to stop for a red traffic signal, entered the intersection and collided with the pickup truck.
The vehicles blocked the southbound lanes and the northbound left turn lane of 49th Street North.
Burdette was transported to Northside Hospital where he died from injuries sustained during the crash.
Shea was not injured in the crash.
Investigators say alcohol did not play a role in the crash and no charges are pending.
