The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist. The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Channelside Drive and S Florida Avenue in Tampa.
According to investigators, a motorcycle was headed eastbound on Channelside Drive approaching Florida Avenue. The motorcycle was in the far left lane, which is marked as a left-turn lane. A vehicle headed in the same direction was in the lane next to the motorcycle, a lane where left turns are also allowed. As the vehicle began to make a left turn to head northbound on Florida, the motorcycle failed to make the left turn and collided with the vehicle.
The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Next of kin for the deceased motorcycle rider have not yet been notified. He is an adult male in his early 20s.
