At 2:14 p.m., officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department were asked to check on a man who made suicidal threats and lives an apartment complex at 11901 10th Way North. Police had reason to believe he had access to a weapon.

He wasn’t in his apartment and officers had to search the property and surrounding area for him. In an abundance of caution,  northbound traffic on MLK St. at 116th Avenue North, as well as the southbound exit (exit #31) off I-275 onto MLK Street was closed down.

The subject was taken into custody at approximately 4:30 p.m.after negotiators made contact.  The arrest took place in the area of 11101 Roosevelt Blvd. N.
