Police say woman shot and killed by her boyfriend in a car in Clearwater

Clearwater Police detectives continue to investigate a homicide that occurred at approximately 3:12 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021.

The initial call was in regards to a 911 call of a shooting in the area of Otten Street and Weston Drive. The reporting party advised that the shooting occurred as a female was seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Following the shooting, it is reported that the suspect moved the victim from the driver seat and drove the vehicle away from the scene.

Police were unable to find anything at the scene upon their arrival. Ten minutes later, a woman’s body was found inside a 2020 Nissan Sentra in the 1700 block of Townsend Street. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The suspect was apprehended shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021 off of Carlisle Street just west of Keene Road.

The suspect was apprehended from a retention pond a few streets over from where the car was abandoned. He has been identified as 34 year-old Joshua Henderson of Clearwater.

Henderson was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder on a law enforcement officer. The second charge relates to him pulling a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy under water and holding the deputy there. That deputy was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Henderson has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

The victim has been identified as 20 year-old Shyanne Turner and according to police, the two were involved in a dating relationship.
