Officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department have made an arrest in a fatal hit and run crash that occurred at approximately at 12:35 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020. Police say that the driver that left the scene was identified as 41 year-old Michael Broughton of St. Petersburg.
Officers were called to 62nd Avenue N and 55th Street for a crash involving a motorcycle. Once on-scene, officers located the single occupant of the motorcycle deceased with no other vehicles in the area. The motorcyclist was identified as 45 year-old Jason Prine.
A small dark-colored pick-up truck was observed leaving the area immediately after the crash occurred through investigation and witness testimony. The pick-up truck was only described as dark in color with whitewall tires. Investigators were able to link Broughton and his 1997 Toyota pickup to the crash.
Broughton was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. According to arrest documentation, there is an indication that Broughton was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash.
Broughton is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and felony battery dating violence. No further information is available on the latter charge.
