Crews from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to the area of 4th Street and 18th Avenue South shortly before 6 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021.
A woman was located in distress and calling for help suffering from multiple serious injuries from an alligator attack. Firefighters worked to pull her out of the mangroves along the edge of the water.
The female victim, described as homeless woman in her late 50’s, was resting on the seawall in the area and fell into the canal and was suddenly attacked.
The patient had severe injuries to her arms and had to be a trauma alerted to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg were she is in stable condition, according to St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue.
Currently, Florida Fish and Wildlife is on scene search for the nuisance alligator.
Generally, FWC indicates an alligator may be considered a nuisance if it’s at least 4 feet in length and believed to pose a threat to people, pets or property.Â
