Clearwater Police school resource officers arrested a teenager on Friday, March 3, 2023, after he brought a gun on campus of the Countyside High School located at 3000 State Road 580 in Clearwater.
Officers became aware this morning that the suspect, a 16-year-old junior, had a gun in
his backpack after another student alerted them. Officers said he did not threaten
anyone with the weapon or plan any act of violence.
The 16-year-old student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age. He was taken to the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center.
The gun was a Glock 48 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The suspect admitted he had
the gun in his backpack and also said he knew it was wrong to have it at
school.
