Missing Boater Found Deceased After Dock Collision on Lake Tarpon

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing boater on June 19, 2023, at around 10:22 a.m.

The incident occurred on Lake Tarpon in Palm Harbor. Mark Mayer, a 50-year-old individual, had departed from his residence on June 18, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m. aboard his 19-foot Tracker boat. However, he did not return home, prompting his family to report him as missing to law enforcement.

At approximately 11:26 a.m., deputies from the Flight Unit located Mayer and his boat. The vessel had apparently collided with the dock situated at 3723 Mullenhurst Drive in Palm Harbor.

Investigations revealed that Mayer had struck the dock, resulting in him being thrown from the boat. Subsequently, Mayer’s body was recovered from the water in close proximity to the vessel.

Deputies have noted that alcohol appears to have played a role in the crash. The next of kin has been informed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
