Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Sunset Point Road.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
The single-vehicle crash involved a 2016 Honda Pilot, which collided with the median barrier and subsequently caught fire.
The 24-year-old male driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. He was immediately transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, and his injuries are potentially life-threatening.
Police say that based on preliminary observations, it appears that alcohol may have played a role in causing the crash.
As a result, the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 had to be temporarily closed for approximately three hours in order to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
