At approximately 9:43 pm on Monday, July 24, 2023, Tampa Police were dispatched to the Veterans Expressway near Courtney Campbell Causeway regarding a subject in dark clothing standing in the northbound roadway throwing liquid at vehicles.
Before officers could come in contact with the male subject, he was struck by a black Hyundai Sante Fe and came to rest in the outside travel lane where he was struck by a second vehicle, possibly a four-door sedan.
The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Alexander Rowland.
The 60-year-old female driver of the Hyundai remained on scene and was cooperative. Investigators are attempting to locate and identify the driver of the second vehicle.
While early in the investigation, there are currently no criminal charges pending. Anyone who may have information related to this incident is asked to contact Tampa Police at 813-231-6130.
