Officers from the St. Petersburg Police arrested 40-year-old Antron Smith for attempted homicide.
On July 24, at 12:38 a.m., in the parking lot of the Palm Aire Motel at 3250 34th St. N., Smith hit his domestic partner, a 25-year-old pregnant woman, with a metal tire iron bar several times.
She broke away and ran across the street. Smith jumped in their car, a blue 2016 Toyota Scion, and drove in the victim’s direction. She moved out of the way, but he hit a parked pick-up truck and fled the scene.
Shortly before 5 p.m., officers responded to a suicide threat in the 4200 block of 12th Ave. S. Smith had gone to a family member’s home and threatened to harm himself. Officers negotiated with him and were able to take him into custody.
The vehicle he was driving, a 2016 blue Toyota Scion, was recovered from the water in Gulfport. Officers from the Gulfport Police Department were dispatched to the 5700 block of Shore Blvd S (Gulfport Beach) regarding an abandoned vehicle that was located approximately 40 feet into the water.
During the course of the investigation, Gulfport Police determined that this vehicle was involved in the St Petersburg Police Department case.
Smith faces numerous charges, including attempted murder in the 1st degree and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
