Nicholas Bollea, son of Hulk Hogan, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after Clearwater Police conducted a Traffic Stop for an alleged Move Over Law violation.
The traffic stop occurred at approximately 1:18 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1765 Gulf to Bay Blvd in Clearwater.
According to an officer at the Gulf to Bay Blvd and Lake intersection, specifically in the eastbound left turn lane, Bollea’s black 2021 Dodge Ram was observed in the median lane while three patrol vehicles with activated emergency equipment were conducting a traffic stop. The officer attempted to signal Bollea to move over using a department-issued flashlight but reportedly failed to comply.
Sgt. Negersmith, at the scene, utilized in-car radar and determined that Bollea’s vehicle was traveling at 51 mph in a posted 40 mph zone. Subsequently, Sgt. Negersmith initiated a traffic stop for the Move Over Law violation.
Upon making contact with Bollea, law enforcement officials observed signs of impairment. The arrest affidavit notes a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, swaying and unsteady balance, as well as bloodshot and glassy eyes. The driver allegedly refused a breath test.
Bollea was subjected to field sobriety tests, during which he reportedly exhibited poor performance. Based on the observed impairment, law enforcement arrested Bollea for allegedly driving under the influence.
Bollea was involved in a serious injury crash in Clearwater in 2007. This crash left his friend John Graziano with a severe brain injury. He pled no contest to reckless driving with serious bodily injury and served only about six months of his jail sentence after being released early for good behavior. He was released from felony probation in 2012.
