Suspect charged in 2021 St. Petersburg homicide case

Police received a call of a shooting in the 2100 block of 17th Avenue South at approximately 9:33 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Qareeb Muhammad lying in a field and confirmed he had been shot. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died from his injuries.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, St. Petersburg Police detectives charged 28-year-old Keondre Flournoy with 2nd-degree murder in the death of Muhammad on December 29th, 2021. Flournoy has been in jail on unrelated charges since November 2022.

The victim and the suspect were roommates. They were involved in a physical altercation on the morning of December 29th, 2021, and Flournoy shot Mohammad. His body was found in a vacant lot in the 2100 block of 17th Avenue South.
