Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a serious injury crash in St. Pete Beach.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:48 p.m. on January 13, 2024.
Due to the extent of the injuries, the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the single-vehicle crash near 75th Avenue and Mangrove Avenue in St. Pete Beach.
A 23-year-old, Ka’Pone Wainwright, lost control of her 2003 Honda Accord while traveling westbound on the Corey Causeway at a high speed, colliding with a palm tree in the median.
Wainwright sustained life-threatening injuries and transported to the trauma center at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
The ongoing investigation suggests speed and impairment as potential factors. Next of kin has been informed.
