Driver critically injured in crash at I-275 entrance ramp in St. Petersburg

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, a 35-year-old was operating a gray Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on 28th Street South at the northbound entrance to
Interstate 275.

39-year-old Dejuan Williams of St. Petersburg was operating a silver BMW 328xi sedan and collided with the Dodge Ram

According to traffic homicide investigators, the Dodge pickup truck attempted to turn left from southbound 28th Street South to travel onto the I-275 Northbound on-ramp.

At the same time, the BMW, traveling north on 28th Street South, entered the paved median as it approached the intersection and attempted to re-enter the northbound travel lane just before the collision occurred.

After the impact, the BMW crashed into a concrete pillar under the interstate overpass.

Williams was taken by ambulance to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On June 6, 2024, Williams died as a result of his injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of the Dodge pickup was transported in stable condition.

A portion of 28th Street South from 5th Avenue South to 11th Avenue South was shut down for more than three hours due to the crash and subsequent investigation. It reopened before noon.

The investigation remains open and active.
