St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire at a two-family home on the 2700 block of 14th Avenue North at approximately 5:50 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find large black columns of smoke and heavy fire coming from the rear detached two-story apartment. The ground outside and exterior stairs were also on fire.
Upon entry, firefighters noticed the bulk of the fire coming from the roof and at that point, called for a second alarm to request additional firefighters.
Firefighters were able to work through heavy rain and extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
All residents were evacuated from the home before arrival. The homeowner and a caregiver were treated and released. There were no injuries.
Crews will remain on scene to assist the occupants with the retrieval of personal belongings.
