On Friday, August 9, 2024, Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews responded to a serious crash on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the eastbound lanes when a motorcycle collided with the rear of a moving car.

The motorcyclist, identified as 19-year-old Ramon Castro Jr. of Tampa, was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities believe that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
As a result of the accident, the eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway were closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted.
