The Sacred Heart Festival, a bi-annual community tradition known for its family-friendly atmosphere, was prematurely concluded this year due to disruptions involving a group of juveniles. The decision was made to prioritize the safety of attendees, particularly families with young children.
Authorities reported multiple incidents on Saturday evening at the Festival at 7809 46th Way in Pinellas Park. This included fights and claims of a firearm seen or shots fired, which contributed to the decision to end the event early. Officers responding to the scene did not locate a weapon or hear gunfire, but the chaos led to a stampede-like reaction among attendees, resulting in minor injuries.
Festival organizers collaborated with law enforcement to manage the escalating situation. Four juveniles were arrested for disorderly conduct, and an individual leaving the event was arrested for aggravated assault on an officer after striking the officer with a vehicle. The officer sustained minor injuries.
“The safety and enjoyment of all attendees is our top priority, and it is deeply disappointing that the actions of a few individuals disrupted what was meant to be a positive and inclusive experience for families,” said Chief Adam Geissenberger. “We will continue working closely with church officials to strengthen safety measures for future events. We urge parents to take responsibility for their children’s behavior at public events to prevent incidents like this in the future.”
Sacred Heart Church and local authorities are committed to ensuring the festival continues to bring the community together. Plans are underway to enhance security and safety protocols for future events.
