On Friday, January 17, 2025, at approximately 2:22 PM, a serious motorcycle crash occurred on northbound SR-589 near Gunn Highway.
According to troopers from the FHP, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by a 42-year-old man from Apollo Beach, experienced a rear tire blowout. The motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Both the operator and his passenger, a 47-year-old woman also from Apollo Beach, were ejected from the motorcycle.
Emergency responders transported the two individuals to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, the passenger later died from her injuries. The motorcyclist remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
All northbound lanes were closed for several hours due to the crash just south of the Gunn Highway exit.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. No further details are available at this time.
