DUNEDIN – A Hudson man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash early Friday morning in Dunedin, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducted speed enforcement near Bayshore Boulevard and Michigan Boulevard at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025. They attempted to stop a red Kawasaki motorcycle speeding southbound on Bayshore Boulevard. However, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The deputy deactivated the emergency lights and did not pursue the motorcycle.
Roughly three minutes later, several 911 calls reported a motorcycle crash near 1427 Bayshore Boulevard. Investigators determined that the rider, identified as 41-year-old Michael Gaffney of Hudson, lost control of the motorcycle and struck a guy wire attached to a utility pole.
Gaffney suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that next of kin had been notified and stated that speed was a factor in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
