DUNEDIN, FL – At approximately 4:40 a.m., on Tuesday; May 27, 2025, Dunedin Fire-Rescue responded to a fire alarm at Mease Life, a nine-story independent and assisted living facility at 700 E. Manor Boulevard. While units were en route, reports were received of smoke visible on the ninth floor.
Upon arrival, the District Chief upgraded the call to a structure fire and requested additional resources. A third alarm was initiated due to the size and complexity of the facility.
One 93-year-old female resident was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The fire was located on the roof of the building’s north wing. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. Crews remain on scene addressing hot spots and completing safety checks.
Initial observations indicate the fire may have started in an area undergoing recent construction and roofing work. The cause is under investigation, though the fire is not considered suspicious.
The building was not evacuated. Residents were instructed to shelter in place. Damage is limited to a portion of the roof, and there are no current plans to relocate residents.
Mutual aid was provided by departments from Tarpon Springs, Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, Clearwater, Largo, Seminole, Sunstar, and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Their coordinated response supported fire suppression and resident safety.
Dunedin Fire-Rescue is expected to remain on site for approximately 90 minutes to complete operations.
