The City of Indian Rocks Beach posted a press release about a possible explosive device found on the beach.
On the evening of Sunday, July 27, 2025, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 15th Ave Beach Access, Indian Rocks Beach, to a report of found property, possibly an explosive device, on the beach, west of the 15th Avenue beach access point.
According to the release, the device had no identifiable markings or features indicating its origin or nature. As a precaution, the surrounding beach area was cleared of people.
The HCSO Bomb Squad and the MacDill Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were notified and responded to the scene. They stated the device resembled a WWI artillery shell. They took possession of it and transported it to the base for proper disposal. Once the device was safely removed, the beach was reopened to the public.
