PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the St. Petersburg Police Department are investigating after a body was discovered near the Gandy Bridge late Friday night.
According to investigators, at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, an individual arrived at the HCSO District 2 office and reported knowing the location of a body in Pinellas County. Detectives followed up, and the individual led them to a site near the Gandy Bridge in the Weedon Island Preserve where a body was located.
The same individual also directed investigators to a residence in Riverview on Maybrook Avenue. Around 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to the home, where they made contact with a juvenile. A search warrant was obtained for the property.
Detectives say the juvenile provided additional information regarding evidence connected to the case, some of which is believed to be scattered across multiple locations in Hillsborough County. Preliminary findings suggest the incident began at the Riverview home before the body was left in Pinellas County.
Crime scene units were processing both locations late into the night and into this morning. Officials report that the investigation remains in its early stages.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the body recovered in Pinellas County.
As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been made. HCSO stated that all parties involved are cooperating with law enforcement. Additional details are expected to be released later in the day.
“While our detectives continue to actively work this investigation, someone in our community knows what happened, and your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be the key to delivering justice for this victim and their family,”said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Help us hold those responsible accountable.”
