According to investigators, at approximately 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, 15-year-old Viktor Rakaj was riding his bicycle north on New York Avenue approaching Main Street. At the same time, a 2024 Hyundai Elantra was driven by a 16-year-old male who was traveling east on Main Street.

Detectives say Rakaj failed to stop at the stop sign at New York Avenue and entered the intersection, where the Elantra struck him.

Rakaj, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The teen driving the Elantra was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

Both teens involved are students at Dunedin High School.

Deputies say impairment and speed do not appear to be factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
