A man was arrested on Thursday, November 20, 2025, after deputies say he removed two dogs from a woman’s residence and attempted to surrender them to county animal services as stray animals.
According to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old David Michael Orrico observed two dogs outside a residence at 10100 Sailwinds Boulevard North in Unincorporated Largo on November 20 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Investigators say he picked up the dogs, placed them in his truck, and transported them to Pinellas County Animal Services.
Deputies stated that Orrico was seen removing the dogs’ collars before attempting to turn them in as strays. The affidavit reports the animals belonged to the victim, who owns three dogs in total. One of the recovered animals was identified as a miniature schnauzer, one of the victim’s service animals, valued at about $1,700. The second dog, described as a mixed-breed pet, was valued at approximately $500.
During a non-custodial interview, Orrico reportedly said he took the dogs because they were a nuisance and that he hoped the animals were not microchipped.
Deputies charged Orrico with grand theft between $750 and $5,000 under Florida Statute. He was arrested at 3:30 p.m. and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
His bond was set at $5,000.
