CLEARWATER — A 26-year-old Clearwater man was arrested early Tuesday after a crash that shut down the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 for several hours.
According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. on November 25, 2025. An eastbound car failed to slow or stop for the stop sign at U.S. 19 and Nursery Road. The vehicle crossed the southbound frontage road, went through a concrete dividing wall, and came to rest in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19.
Debris from the broken wall was scattered across the roadway, prompting an extended closure of the southbound lanes while crews cleared the scene.

Officials reported that the driver, Jon Wilson, 26, from Clearwater, fled the scene on foot, heading west on Nursery Road. He was located and taken into custody shortly after the crash. Wilson was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment before being booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
Wilson faces charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
No additional details on injuries were immediately released.
